I am Zachary Maizes, a Software Engineer with a Bachelor's in Science for Computer Science from Northeastern University. College was a great experience for me, and I'm making the most of my working life as well. My average week consists of work, game night, volunteering at my local food kitchen, reading, biking to dinner with friends, shabbat services, and cooking. Sometimes I'll go to a comedy show, concert, or movie, depending on what's available.
What I Do
Web Development
I am a Full-Stack developer with extensive front-end experience, primarily utilizing React.js, Next.js, and Typescript. I also have experience with SQL, a handful of AWS products, and version control, and focus on writing high quality, reusable code.
Game Development
Making games is a passion of mine, and I am most familiar with using the Unity engine. I have led various groups ranging up to 5 devs, and also make games by myself on occasion. My published works are available on my itch page, free to both play and download.
Testimonials
Tariq Porter @ Meta
Zachary worked at Meta on the Shop Builder team, implementing the "Expired Assets" project, which deals with how we prompt merchants to keep their storefronts "fresh" by replacing offers and collections, and removing stale sections. Zachary was able to very quickly take project ownership, running all dependencies with partner teams, PM, and design. He completed all of the project milestones weeks ahead of estimate with well thought out logical code structure, and unit tests. He went on to complete a number of stretch milestones, as well as writing a wiki and hosting knowledge transfer to an incoming team. Zachary became a core part of the Shop Builder team and is sorely missed!
Weiling Huang @ Amazon
Zachary was a great intern during his summer with us at AmazonPay. He ramped up on his project quickly and effectively within 2 weeks and began making code changes by his 3rd week, well ahead of expectations. He not only was able to comprehensively understand our service architecture but also was able to learn a completely new framework (React/Redux) within a short amount of time. I was impressed that he was able to go beyond just a basic understanding of the framework/language and was able to begin making thoughtful changes with design patterns/higher level concepts in mind. Zachary had strong coding fundamentals from the beginning and worked hard to always improve his code quality throughout the internship. Even though there were moments of ambiguity and churn during his internship that resulted in unforeseen changes to his project requirements, Zachary did a great job adapting to these - rapidly making changes to his design to accommodate a new spec or refactoring his existing work to better align with a new request. Zachary was able to understand the service package so well by the end of the internship that he was capable of independently assisting other interns to onboard/ramp up on the service. In the end, he successfully delivered a new internal service that we have since moved into production for use across our AmazonPay team. Thanks for all the work you did this summer - I would highly recommend Zachary!
Trent Vukich @ TradeStation
Zachary was hired as a web engineer intern for our internal reporting initiative. I was his manager during this time and I was extremely impressed by his ability to communicate with me and to understand all of the requirements. The initial struggle that came with this role, is that the position was located in a remote location from the rest of the team (including from myself). This forced him to find answers and to come up with solutions on his own, and it required a high-level of communication and trust, all of which Zachary excelled in. He eliminated any potential pain-points from being remote and he was extremely productive throughout the engagement. He finished the project within the expected timeline and demonstrated a high level of professionalism while he worked at TradeStation. I highly recommend Zachary and I hope that I get the chance to work with him again.
Eric Heatzig @ STRAX Intelligence Group (F.K.A. Eagle Eye Intelligence)
Zachary Maizes was an intern for us in the summer of 2016. He was brought in to assist me in my duties as VP of R&D. He is a very quick learner and he soon got himself up to speed on the knowledge required for his various duties, including fine-tuning image recognition software and assembling complex machinery such as a CNC machine. He worked diligently to accomplish these tasks and wasn't afraid to ask for help when necessary. As a result, the work he did was of high quality and done very efficiently. I was very impressed with how well he did with the wide variety of tasks he was assigned, especially as he took on tasks that he was committed to learning how to do from scratch as well as projects he already experienced in. The results of his time here can still be seen today in the work done using the CNC machine he assembled along with various other ways, and we still talk to this day. Anyone would be lucky to have Zachary as an employee, and I look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the future!
